Ok, this week was hot as $*&#!
With all the weather we Chicagoans have been experiencing lately, I felt this post to be VERY relevant. August has once again reclaimed itself as the hottest effing month of the year and September is starting off the same way. While I shouldn’t be complaining (I already know I’ll be whining about the arctic tundra in a few months), this feeling of perpetual stickiness is just not flyin’ with me– and I’m sure many other inhabitants of the Windy City.
Luckily, most of us can hide away in air conditioned offices during the summer, but this, in itself, presents another problem: how do we look modest and business casual appropriate inside with the sweltering heat outside?! Look no further because with our simple tips and tricks below, you’ll no longer be encountering sweat stains and goose bumps all in a matter of minutes.
Knee Length Skirts:
Airy circle skirts like that pictured above allow for your legs to take in the occasional breeze outside but also double as a nice cover-up for your legs in a colder office environment. Win-win.
Light and Loose Fitting Pants:
Lightweight pants (rather than your typical heavy, black slacks) are great for keeping cool and dry in the unbearable summer weather but work just as well as a nice variation to business casual attire. These Jet Set Ankle Trousers are perfect because they’re made of polyester and spandex — materials that are comfy and light.
Sleeveless Dresses and Blouses:
I live by sleeveless anything in the summer because they’re so easy to pair with cardigans when inside that you can then throw off when outside! This Lead By Example Dress is even office appropriate enough to be worn alone but obviously looks fabulous with a little cardigan, too, if you aren’t feeling as rebellious at work with more skin showing.
Now, I know we’ve already dedicated an entire post to kimonos in the workplace, but I really think it needs to be reiterated that KIMONOS ROCK. PERIOD. They’re seriously the best article of clothing for the office in the middle of summer. Why? Because they’re sheer and light, look professional yet trendy, AND they’re small enough to shove into your purse when heading outside during your lunch break. Need we say more?! Any kimono looks great, but we decided to pair our Love For Lace Blouse and ponte pants with our kimonos to create the ultimate cold-office-but-hot-as-balls-outside look.
